Cooperstown 2011: Al Leiter

First Year on Ballot

PLAYING CAREER:  New York Yankees (1987–1989), Toronto Blue Jays (1989–1995), Florida Marlins (1996–1997), New York Mets (1998–2004), Florida Marlins (2005) and New York Yankees (2005)

ACHIEVEMENTS:  Career 162–132 record, with a 3.80 ERA and 1974 strikeouts.  Threw no-hitter on May 11, 1996.  Two-time World Series champion (1993 and 1997).  Two-time All-Star (1996 and 2000).  Ten straight seasons (1995-2004) with ten or more wins and at keast a .500 winning percentage.  After beating the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 30, 2002...Leiter became the first Major League pitcher to defeat all 30 teams.

HOVG THOUGHTS:  Leiter was a good pitcher for a long time.  One of the best?  Not by a long shot.
