Bartolo Colon Takes Liner to the Face

Bartolo Colon took a liner to the face while pitching Sunday and, well, there's really nothing more to say about this than...ouch.

Thankfully, he was able to walk himself off the field to the rousing combination of cheers and zuzuvelas.

Colon is currently pitching in the Dominican Republic after having his 2012 campaign cut short following a failed drug test while with the Oakland Athletics.

There's no indication whether or not the 2005 American League Cy Young award winner, who turns 40 in May, will be attempting any sort of comeback in 2013.  For his career, he is 171-122 with a 4.05 ERA.

The Yankees Stink...Literally

There are jokes to be made about this, but Kevin Kaduk over at Big League Stew already made them all, so here.

This...according to ESPN New York.

Called, simply, "New York Yankees'' and "New York Yankees for Her,'' the team will introduce two "official fragrances'' at a cocktail reception in Manhattan on Tuesday, February 21. Smells like money.

This isn't the first Yankees-related scent to hit the market, Derek Jeter Driven was launched by AVON in 2006 and if you read some of these reviews...it had its fair share of fans.

On a related note, Bartolo Colon (see what I did there?) is expected to start Oakland's second game of the season when the Athletics take on the Seattle Mariners during baseball's semi-annual excursion to Japan.

Colon was 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA in 26 starts last season.

Yankees Ink Bartolo Colon

In a desperate move to keep up with the other free agent signings out there...the Yankees went out and signed themselves an ace.

According to ESPNNewYork.com...the Bombers have agreed to a deal with the 2005 American League Cy Young Award winner.

The New York Yankees are taking a chance on Bartolo Colon in their quest for another quality arm in the starting rotation. The team said it has signed the right-hander to a one-year, minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. He could earn $900,000 if he makes the big league roster.

Honestly, I can't figure out what the Yankees are doing.  First, they brought in Mark Prior.  Next...it was Andruw Jones.

And now...Colon?

Now, I'm not against it. I mean, if the dude can still throw...he can throw. But, Jesus, man, Colon is 37-years-old and hasn't performed at any discernable "big league level" in close to half a decade.  And all reports are that he's twice the man (literally) that he use to be.

Oh, and if you want a good chuckle...go check out dude's Baseball Reference page. Something tells me homeboy isn't 185 pounds with only one foot on the scale.

For his career, Colon is 153-103 (a .598 winning percentage) and a robust (see what I did there?) 4.10.  Good luck, Yankees fans...start printing your playoff tickets now.

Yankees Considering Bartolo Colon?

First came the chatter of Gary Sheffield coming back.

Then...Jose Canseco took to Twitter asking for someone, anyone (but, he'd prefer Sandy Alderson) to give him a shot.

Now...it's Bartolo Colon.

This...according to some newspaper out of the the Dominican Republic. 

And the following comes from a piece over at FanNation.

Former Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon has heard from the Yankees. [Colon] has not pitched in the Major Leagues since July 24, 2009, but he is still planning a comeback and said there are three teams interested in him. Colon told El Dia, a newspaper in the Dominican Republic, that the Rangers, Yankees and Indians have all expressed some degree of interest in him. "I'll go with the one that signs me," said Colon, who would most likely have to settle for a non-roster contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Colon was 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in seven starts for the Cibaenas Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League this year.

Now, I'm not against it.  I mean, if the dude can still throw...he can throw.  But, Jesus, man, Colon is 37-years-old and hasn't performed at any discernable "big league level" in close to half a decade.
 
But, these are the Yankees that recently brought Mark Prior into the fold.  So, um, take THAT naysayers!
