Topps Unveils World's Largest Baseball Card

Since he was 12 and crushing home runs deep into the stands at Tiger Stadium...we knew Prince Fielder was larger than life.

On Tuesday, the Topps Company proved it by unveiling what is said to be "the largest card ever created".

“It is truly an honor and a thrill for me to be featured not only on the 2013 Topps Series 1 box, but also on the largest baseball card the world has ever seen,” said Fielder. “Baseball is back.”

Helping the Detroit Tigers superstar unveil the card, which measured 90 feet by 60 feet, were nearly 100 youth baseball players from Lakeland City Baseball.

Spring training kicked off for Fielder and his Tigers teammates Monday.

Where Prince Fielder ISN'T Going

Depending on who you talk to, they'll tell you where they think Prince Fielder is heading or, given their particular fandom, where they want the slugger to end up.

Well, according to reports (and, seriously, don't we all love this time of year where "according to reports" starts every story)...we know what teams we can cross OFF as potential destinations for the robust slugger.

Some have an interesting theory on Prince Fielder's possible destination: That's because of his well-known alienation from his father, Cecil, Fielder wouldn't want to play on one of his dad's former teams and expose himself to more comparisons. That would rule out the Tigers, Blue Jays, Yankees, Indians and Angels.

I suppose we can go ahead and omit the Hanshin Tigers as well?

Prince Fielder Strikes Out His Dad

Long before he was an MVP candidate, Milwaukee's Prince was the rag tag "Young" Fielder doing commercials with his dad, former big leaguer Cecil.

But something tells me it was watching his pops choking down some McDonald's that might have made Prince change his diet.

And if this commercial proves anything, it's that if the Brewers get in a jam, perhaps their rotund first baseman could take the bump and give the opposition a taste of what his dad got.

Prince Fielder Almost Got Sausage'd!

Entering the season with 192 career home runs, All-Star Prince Fielder is a just a few big hits away from reaching 200 for his career.

Last week, the 26-year-old was almost on the receiving end of a big hit (see what I did there?) courtesy of the famed Milwaukee Brewers sausages.

Arizona State University student Andrew Gruman was on the other end of the near-collision.  Here's his account via the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

I almost contributed to the Brewers' injury woes.  Friday was my day to run in the Klement's Sausage Race at Maryvale Baseball Park and I chose to be the Italian.

Little did I know that big Prince Fielder would be thrown in as an obstacle.

I saw Fielder in my way as we were about to start the race and thought to myself, he has to move out of the way, doesn't he? He was right in my way and he didn't move. I'll let you watch the rest.

Afterwards, Brewers' assistant general manager Gord Ash thanked me for saving the season.

Thankfully for Gruman, Fielder didn't go all Randall Simon on him. Enjoy the video!

Albert Pujols Favored to Reach 600 Next

After Alex Rodriguez went deep last week and became just the seventh player in Major League history to accumulate 600 or more home runs, I had to ask...who will be the next player to do it?

Future Hall of Famers Jim Thome (579 career bombs) and Manny Ramirez (554) are both within shouting distance of the milestone...but at 39 and 38 years old respectively, their best years are behind them.

While it would be hard to root against Thome because he's 21 long balls away from 600...does he have enough in the tank to do it? He's hit just 15 this year and I'm not so sure he'll continue to get the at bats next season.

Ramirez, on the other hand...well, he looks to be close to done.

At just 30 years old, Washington's Adam Dunn (347) has done nothing but crush the ball since he entered the league. In each of his last nine seasons, Dunn has hit at least 25 or more home runs. From 2004-2008, he became just the second player to hit 40 or more home runs in five straight seasons.

The other? George Herman Ruth...who did it in seven straight years. And with 31 so far this season, Dunn looks to have 40 back on his radar after stalling out at 38 last year.

Second generation superstar Prince Fielder has the most home runs of anyone under the age of 30. With 185 home runs at the age of 26, the Milwaukee Brewers first baseman is making a name for himself as one of the National League's premier power hitters.

Not surprisingly, Albert Pujols seems to be the odds on favorite to be the next guy to do everything. Friday night, the 30 year-old hit career homer number 394 and barring sudden injury, will become the second youngest player to reach 400.
