Jennie Finch Welcomes Son!

I know it's not the typical type of news you expect to see here, but since Jennie Finch was so nice to accommodate The Hall last summer...I'm always inclined to bang out a post when the Olympian makes news.

So here you go...courtesy of People:

Jennie Finch delivered her and Casey Daigle‘s second son, Diesel Dean Daigle, on Sunday, June 19 at 10:25 p.m., the couple confirm to PEOPLE exclusively.  Diesel weighed in at 8 lbs., 2 oz. and is 22 1/4 inches long. He joins big brother Ace Shane, 5, at home.

“We are so completely grateful and beyond blessed,” Finch told People.  “Casey and I are excited for our sweet precious Baby D! Ace couldn’t be any more pumped to be a big brother to Diesel.”

And yeah, I know, I know, this was a long way to go to remind everyone that she did an interview with this site, but still...Jennie Finch, man! Who have you interviewed lately?

Jennie Finch is Blogging Now!

I know it's an understatement...but Jennie Finch has carved out a pretty good career for herself, right?

Let's break it down. 

She was a three-time All-American in college, two-time Olympian and, in 2008, she appeared on "The Celebrity Apprentice".  Heck, last year, TIME magazine even called her "the most famous softball player in history".

But as Finch counts down the days to the birth of her second child, she can now add another line to her resume...celebrity blogger over at People.com.

In her initial post, she describes the baby in the belly as being "the size of an average rutabaga"...and then goes on to educate the readers about the turnip-like vegetable and ask for advice!

As it turns out rutabagas are a really good source of some of those nutrients including vitamin C, folate (especially good for expecting mommies!), potassium and calcium. If anyone has any good rutabaga recipes, I’d love to hear them!

How Did You Spend YOUR Friday?

Back in July, Olympic softball superstar Jennie Finch became the first (and still only) female to take part in The Hall's weekly "Friday 5" feature.  This Friday, I'm pretty sure she became the first to have a street named after her as well.

As part of the Chicago Bandits new $6 million stadium being built in Rosemont, Illinois...they included, you guessed it, Jennie Finch Way.

Not Batting Stance Guy Lane.

Not Matt Antonelli Boulevard.

Jennie Finch Way.

"Chicago and the Bandits have been such a big part of my career," Finch said at the groundbreaking. "They are both in my heart, and to be honored this way is nothing short of amazing."

Construction of the 2000 seat stadium should be completed in time for the 2011 season and will be built to comply with all NCAA standards so that it can also be used for college championships or tournaments.

So again, I ask...how did you spend YOUR Friday?  Did you get a street named after you?!?

Friday 5: Jennie Finch

If you hit up "Jennie Finch" over at the Wikipedias...you'll find a slew of accomplishments.

2004 Olympic Gold Medalist.

2005 National Pro Fastpitch Co-Pitcher of the Year.

2008 Olympic Silver Medalist.

But of course nothing compares to this...Jennie Finch is the first female to step up and take her cuts at the "Friday 5".

HOVG: Who was your biggest influence and why?

FINCH: My parents, they are my rocks. They taught me how to play and try to live the "right" way. Giving all you have, never giving up, dealing with failure, overcoming obstacles and so many more life lessons learned through this great game. I am so grateful they have been there to help understand and become a better person and player from them.

HOVG: What is your most memorable travel experience?

FINCH: Italy was incredible! So beautiful and historic. We trained there for a month in 2004 with the USA Olympic Team gearing up for Athens.

HOVG: What is your favorite baseball term or saying?

FINCH: "Strike 3" of course!

HOVG: What is your best experience or greatest accomplishment?

FINCH: The Olympic Gold Medal in Athens, Greece. Amazing, absolutely everything and more than I dreamed of! A special group led by a special man!

HOVG: When did you know that you “made it”?

FINCH: I'm still trying to make it, but getting my first pair of metal cleats my freshman year at the Univ of Arizona was a pretty cool thing! Getting to go on Letterman is up there too!

Jennie Finch is currently knockin' 'em dead for the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch softball league. Last week against the Akron Racers, she added another perfect game to her already impressive resume.

Twitter Tuesday: Jennie Finch

If someone were to ask me what it takes to be part of Twitter Tuesday, I really wouldn't know how to answer.

Sometimes, it'll be someone that I've recently discovered (@Broshuis)...other times, it could be someone who simply makes me laugh (@CJNitkowski). Other times, it could be a collection of tweets that personify how the masses feel about a certain topic.

This week, all it takes is being the wife of a current Major Leaguer.

Of course, a 70-plus mph riseball, a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics and, according to TIME magazine, being the "most famous softball player in history" doesn't hurt either.

This past week, she took part in the Major League Baseball Celebrity Softball Game and shared plenty of pictures.
