The Celebrity Apprentice Re-Cap: Episode 5

The previews for this week's episode of "The Celebrity Apprentice" centered around the heavily promoted blow up between Meatloaf and Gary Busey and nowhere to be seen was Jose Canseco.

And now we know why.

Early in the episode, the former slugger bowed out of the competition so that he could spend time with his ill father who had taken the proverbial "turn for the worse".

As you would expect, Donald Trump was understanding, donated $25,000 to Canseco's charity (B.A.T., the Baseball Assistance Team) and granted him his release.

I was curious if Canseco's father's cancer would play a part in the run of the show or not. If you follow the 1988 American League MVP on Twitter, you've seen the tweets about the elder Canseco and know that he passed away last month.

Should you want a re-cap about the rest of the episode...visit our friends at TVLatest.com.

And unless Canseco shows back up for the final task...this concludes the weekly re-caps of "The Celebrity Apprentice".

The Celebrity Apprentice Re-Cap: Episode 4

It's been a long time since Jose Canseco has been part of a team like the one that is on display every Sunday night on "The Celebrity Apprentice".

On paper, there's probably no reason for them to win.  Ever.  But, spoiler alert...they've rattled of three wins in a row and tonight's episode (you can find a complete re-cap over at TVLatest.com) found the former slugger in the middle of the action.

As a gay Argentinian named Pablo.

Now, as exciting as the episode was (dude actually suggested that showing a consumer "communicating with aliens" was a good idea for a video phone company)...nothing compared to what the Twittersphere had in store for the one-time MVP.

Of course, you had to sift through the tweets about his switcheroo act Saturday night in order to keep up with Canseco's audition for Donald Trump.

@Dave_Klimek: I think Jose Canseco has been communicating with aliens a lot since he got hit on the head in the outfield

@Zellyanks: Does Jose Canseco communicate with aliens? He's so messed up in the head.

@jday15: I generally hate "reality" shows, yet here I am getting sucked in by Celebrity Apprentice. It's all Gary Busey & Jose Canseco's fault.

@LonnieZingula: Jose Canseco pondering what his friends will think of him playing a gay man on Apprentice begs many questions. For starters, what friends?

@TJSullivanLA: Richard Hatch giving Jose Canseco wardrobe advice is like Jose Canseco giving Gary Busey lessons in etiquette.

@melgotserved: Meatloaf is taking the lead from Jose Canseco for most bedazzled suit jackets

Canseco stayed relatively quiet (again) Sunday night on Twitter...but former contestant, Olympic softball player (softballer?) Jennie Finch summed up the show rather nicely.

Donald Trump Boardroom - Oh, how I do not miss being there

I can only imagine.  Hola!

The Celebrity Apprentice Re-Cap: Episode 3

The third episode of the latest installment of "The Celebrity Apprentice" looked to be the swansong for former American League MVP Jose Canseco.

He took naps during the challenge, sat back and played catch with the equally inept (and equally entertaining) Gary Busey and, when asked to contribute his two cents on the task at hand...responded routinely with a succinct "I'm completely against it".

Thankfully, for Canseco, his team won.

Like in previous weeks, I'm not going to fill this space with a re-cap of the episode (you can get that over at TVLatest.com), but rather, I'ma  break down what you fine folks had to say about the ever blinking former slugger over on the Twitters.

And yeah...everyone is still talking about dude's tic. And those clothes!

@_Aesthetiqz: Ayo, Jose Canseco, can you please give Liberace his leather jacket back...?-thanx...sincerely, Aesthetiqz

@Big_Boy859: jose canseco has on michael jacksons jacket from the BAD video right now on celeb apprentice

@MarkM625: Jose Canseco disagrees with every idea, but never has his own idea. Hate people like that.

@MajorPhilebrity: Someone just needs to give Jose Canseco a small bear to wrestle or something

@Zellyanks: Gary Busey and Jose Canseco are having a baseball catch. This is fantastic television

@NotSoSexyTruth: If I played a drinking game where I took a swig for every time Jose Canseco's eyes twitched, I'd die of alcohol poisoning in 8 seconds.

I've gotta say...I've been rather upset with how quiet Canseco himself has been on Twitter. Tonight, all homeboy did was complain about his airline.

Boring.

Not boring...a very, very lazy Canseco lounging on the couch in the team RV and the subsequent string "Buseyisms".

The Celebrity Apprentice Re-Cap: Episode 2

As the "Donald Trump Crazy Hour" geared up for week two...the previews were void of Hall favorite Jose Canseco.

And then he was coaxed into a dress.

So, much like last week, you can get a re-cap of the episode from the gang over at TVLatest.com (and I suggest you do), but if you're like me, you're just hung around the Twittersphere to see what was going on.

Here's the second installment of the weekly Twitter re-cap (God this needs a better name) of Canseco's stint vying for the affection of Donald Trump. And as you might imagine, people were mostly focused on dude's eyes and, yes, that dress.

@_RyRyan: Jose Canseco even BLINKS with intensity!

@nprmonkeysee: Why can't every show have Meat Loaf organize a children's theater production where Jose Canseco and Richard Hatch appear in drag?

@rickyr83: Jose Canseco as a woman is going to give the children nightmares. Whose idea was this?

@mdburnell: Jose Canseco makes Gary Busey look perfectly sane

@greenpointmom: It's funny to hear Jose Canseco say, "Meatloaf gave me the wrong address..."

@DJBLAKITO: José Canseco makes the ugliest woman everrr!!!!!!!!!!

Last week, Canseco himself tweeted about the show.

This week, some dude named Joshua James gets the tweet of the night.

when was the last time Jose Canseco buttoned his his shirt up all the way, I'm guessing at least a decade.

So we're two weeks in and unlike Darryl Strawberry from last season, Canseco seems to be making himself a big part of this circus.

I hate to say it...but I already can't wait until next week.  Until then...enjoy Canseco is all his cross dressing goodness.

The Celebrity Apprentice Re-Cap: Episode 1

That bedazzled jacket.  Those creepy eyes.  The altercation with Richard Hatch.

After months of waiting, "The Celebrity Apprentice" kicked off Sunday night and did exactly what it promised.

It brought "the crazy".

And in the middle of the mayhem was a favorite of this site...Jose Canseco.

Now, I could break down the entire episode (boring) or I could tell you that Canseco didn't get fired and point you in the direction of a show re-cap over at TVLatest.com.  Oh, and if you didn't catch Canseco calling the former "Survivor" winner a liar...you missed out.

But, the highlight of the night wasn't watching the 1988 American League MVP on the tube...it was following it on Twitter.

Here's the first of what might end up being a weekly Twitter re-cap (a Twit-cap...tweet-cap?) of Canseco's stint vying for the affection of Donald Trump.  As you would imagine, the tweets were both supportive and, well, not.

@nprmonkeysee:  If Jose Canseco punches Richard Hatch, I will forgive Celebrity Apprentice, instantly, for everything.

@badtzmartin:  Watching celebrity apprentice. José Canseco wearing blue contacts looks like Bruce Banner about to change into The Hulk.

@TheOutlawJosie:  Jose Canseco is the cro-magnoniest ever. It looks like he's made out of rocks. celebrity apprentice

@nMiddz:  Jose Canseco and Richard Hatch should have an Apprentice boxing match to settle their differences... special guest referee? Gary Busey

@SchenkelTown:  watched The Celebrity Apprentice. Jose Canseco should have been fired this week, based on his rhinestone studded sport jacket.

@Denise_Hayden:  I do have to admit, I think more of Jose Canseco than I did before. Of course that didn't take a lot. But he impressed me.

Of course the tweet of the night belonged to Canseco himself:

#Winning sorry... I had to!

If the premiere episode was any indication, this installment of "The Celebrity Apprentice" will be worth watching and, hopefully, Canseco is around for the long haul.

Jose Canseco is Ready for Primetime

So...Donald Trump can see the future right?

Given the crop of crazies he has put together for this go 'round of "The Celebrity Apprentice", he had to have known back in October that this week's headlines were going to be dominated by tiger blood and "winning".

Think about it...who else can compete with the likes of Charlie Sheen when it comes to garnering airtime?  Gary Busey, NeNe Leakes and, of course, Hall of Very Good favorite Jose Canseco...that's who.

Now, it goes without saying that I'll have the feed bag strapped on and my ass in the chair Sunday night to watch the premiere...especially given the prominence of Canseco in the show's promos.

Heck, Jen Harper over at BuddyTV made her list of 25 Reasons to Watch the New Season of "The Celebrity Apprentice" and the former slugger was on it...three times!

10. Jose Canseco's realization that he doesn't have any friends. That's what happens when you accuse America's favorite pastime of sippin' on gin and juice minus the gin.

23. The burgeoning bromance between Jose Canseco and David Cassidy. "Jose, I want to tell you ... you're strong and very, very intelligent with a lot of integrity ... and I love you." OK, I added that last part.

25. Jose Canseco's bedazzled blazer that he bought with the money from "Juiced."

I guess Canseco's appearance on the show begs the following question...how long will the 1988 American League MVP last in Trump boardroom.  Go ahead and vote!

But before you do that...watch the preview of the man who has "lived life ten times over".

Jose Canseco is Planning Another Book

I hate myself for caring, but...we're less than a month away from the trainwreck that will be "The Celebrity Apprentice" and Jose Canseco has broken out of his shell.

First...he challenged Alex Rodriguez to a home run derby via Twitter.

I am challenging alex rodriguez to a home run competition all the monies will go to charity

Then...he announced his plans to put out a third book.

my third book will be coming out soon named the truth hurts it destroyed my life the charity b.a.t will benefit greatly financially

Now, I've tried to reach out to Canseco before, but, apparently, my pockets aren't deep enough to afford the 1988 American League MVP.  Thankfully, the New York Daily News got in touch with the former slugger so no one else had to.

"Basically the name of the book is, 'The Truth Hurts.' It destroyed my life," Canseco told the Daily News Tuesday. "It's completely accurate, of course. I only write books that depict truthful things."

Plenty of people are going to blast Canseco and his truths, but as Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers told me a while back "you don’t see too many people suing him."

"(The new book) kind of states how people view me, what's happened to me financially, how telling the truth has damaged me completely; how powerful Major League Baseball really is," says Canseco, who added he might self-publish the new tome. "It should be a No. 1 bestseller."

There is no timetable as to when the new book will be published (much less written), but one thing is certain...the best installment of "The Celebrity Apprentice" kicks off on NBC March 6.

It's Official...Jose Canseco is on The Apprentice

The worst kept secret is out of the bag (The Hall told you about it back in October)...Jose Canseco is a contestant on the upcoming installment of "The Apprentice".

NBC made it official with a press release today...here's the story courtesy of ET Online:

What drama might unfold when the likes of LaToya Jackson, Gary Busey and "Real Housewife" NeNe Leakes vie for the title of "The Celebrity Apprentice"?

Also competing for Donald Trump's approval will be Star Jones, Lisa Rinna, Marlee Matlin, Dionne Warwick, David Cassidy, John Rich, former "Survivor" champ Richard Hatch, Meat Loaf, Mark McGrath, retired baseball badboy Jose Canseco, rapper Lil Jon, model Niki Taylor and reigning Playboy Playmate of the Year Hope Dworaczyk.

"I am thrilled at the return of 'The Celebrity Apprentice,'" executive producer Mark Burnett said in a statement. "It has become America's Sunday night guilty pleasure, while at the same time, raising millions for charity. This season is the best yet. Buckle your seatbelts."

You'll remember back in November when news came that the former MVP broke a tooth while eating pizza during a challenge.  Ouch...that'll be a painful episode.

The show returns Sunday, March 6 on the peacock network...and I've gotta tell you, I'm excited to Canseco back on television. Dude was actually entertaining while he was on VH1's The Surreal Life a few years back. That said...I'm more excited that Gary Busey will be competing for Trump's eye.

Gary. Effing. Busey!

Jose Canseco and The Apprentice...The Update

Write it down.

It's November 5, 2010...and I am missing the daily nonsensical ramblings of one Jose Canseco via Twitter.

I've written before about Canseco (HERE and HERE) and, honestly, I kinda hoped that he would keep us updated on his exploits while shooting "The Apprentice".

Well, outside of a tweet October 22 (which was promptly removed) mentioning that he was still in New York "auditioning"...we've gotten nothing.

Nada. Zilch.

Until now.

According to the New York Post:

Baseball stoolie José Canseco, who blew the whistle on steroid use, broke off a front tooth on a slice of pizza. Canseco, who was shooting Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" with Niki Taylor, rapper Lil' Jon and Meat Loaf, made an emergency call to Dr. Shawn Sadri, who opened his dental office Sunday night. A source said, "Sadri created a new tooth overnight." A rep for the show didn't get back to us.

Ouch. I'd say I feel sorry for Canseco...but I don't.

Sure, losing a tooth is one of those irrational fears that keeps me awake at night, but c'mon...this is Jose Canseco we're talking about here.  Are we actually allowed to feel remorse for this cat?  Oh, and another question for you...what's the over/under on how many times this dude is going to flex on camera for the citizens of New York?

And in case you were wondering what the former American League MVP looked like working the counter of a pizza joint.

Here's some video.

A big tip of the hat to I Dream of Pizza for posting the video. Feel free to read their account of the goings on HERE.
