John Rocker is at it Again...Again

Jeff Pearlman, one of my favorite scribes, got it right Tuesday afternoon when he succinctly stated "John Rocker really was misunderstood...he's even worse than we thought."

Pearlman, you might remember, was the Sports Illustrated writer who, in 1999, exposed the former pitcher as a world class bigot.

Most recently, the one-time Atlanta Brave wrote book, made questionable political choices, expressed his disdain for President Obama and, on Tuesday, penned an editorial that was picked up online by the white nationalist American Third Position Party.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had it! This country was not founded and did not rise to become the greatest nation this world has ever known on the back of liberal principles, yet these ideals are forced down our throats daily while conservative ones are exploited as somehow rudimentary and fundamentally archaic.

John Rocker is Anti-Obama

Why is John Rocker still allowed to talk?

I tend to ask myself that every time dude shows his face and does another interview.  And, yes, as you would suspect…the former fireballer is still bringing the heat.  Zing!

I know, I know…cliché.  But, really, you’d have thought that, by now, Rocker would have realized that once Jeff Pearlman outed him as a bigot in that notorious Sports Illustrated piece thirteen years ago…he might want to keep his trap shut.

Nope.  Now he’s got a book to sell and he’s back to pushing political hot buttons like it’s 1999.

That said, it should probably come as no surprise that the one-time Atlanta Brave won't be supporting Barack Obama in the upcoming election.

"I’ll be voting against President Obama this year," Rocker recently told WND.com. "I won’t necessarily be voting for the Republican candidate as much as I will be voting against Obama."

But who the former reliever would throw (get it?) his vote behind might surprise you.

"I have always been a big fan of Newt Gingrich. He is one of the most brilliant people I have ever listened to. Unfortunately things didn’t work out for him," Rocker continued.  "It seems that Governor Romney will be getting my vote, although be it somewhat by default. I would vote for the devil himself over Barack Obama which would actually be tough though as he seems to already be a supporter."

John Rocker Backs Newt Gingrich

In case you were wondering...the always controversial John Rocker is endorsing a presidential candidate.

The former big league reliever is throwing (get it?) his support behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

"He is an absolute genius; just a marksman in historical value of pretty much anything you want to discuss," Rocker said while on Mike Silva's New York Baseball Digest radio show.  "But I have always liked Gingrich; I would like to see him get the nomination."

So, why would anyone be giving Rocker time to talk about anything (much less politics) nowadays? 

Dude's gotta peddle his book somehow, right?

John Rocker Strings Some Words Together... Calls it a "Book"

Just in time for Christmas...John Rocker is releasing a book.

Matter of fact, baseball's favorite bigot even claims that he wrote at least 98 percent of the book.

"These are John Rocker's words, these are my thoughts, these are my opinions," one-time Atlanta Braves reliever told Macon, Georgia's WMAZ Wednesday night.

Rocker wrote "Scars and Strikes" in response to a 1999 Sports Illustrated article that he says "ruined his good name forever."  The book is said to mix "baseball memories with his political and social opinions". 

Oh, and what social opinions they are!
On ever playing for a New York team:

I would retire first. It's the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the [Number] 7 train to the ballpark, looking like you're [riding through] Beirut next to some kid with purple hair next to some queer with AIDS right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing.

On New York City itself:

The biggest thing I don't like about New York are the foreigners. I'm not a very big fan of foreigners. You can walk an entire block in Times Square and not hear anybody speaking English. Asians and Koreans and Vietnamese and Indians and Russians and Spanish people and everything up there. How the hell did they get in this country?

On one-time Mets manager (and current Boston Red Sox skipper) Bobby Valentine:

The guy is not professional. Could you see [Yankees manager] Joe Torre or Bobby Cox getting thrown out of a game and then putting on a Groucho Marx disguise and sneaking back into the dugout? If a player got kicked out of a game and did that, Joe Torre would probably suspend him for a week. Bobby Cox would probably demand that the player be traded and tell him not to come back to the team. The Mets' manager did it! That, and his college rah-rah s---? I don't like it.
