"Lima Time" is Back in the News

NFL All-Pro cornerback Antonio Cromartie might want to take notice.

According to Hispanically Speaking News (yes, that's a real thing)...one of Jose Lima's jump-offs is looking for more money out of the late big league pitcher.

Dominican model Dalla Leclerc gets $625 from Lima’s American Social Security benefits, but desires more money for her and her daughter Kammiell. Leclerc gave birth to Kammiell when Lima was married to his second wife, Melissa Lima. 

Leclerc is now suing Major League Baseball Players Association for benefits that are only reserved for legal heirs of players. The union refuses to acknowledge Kammiell as Lima’s child since the couple never married.

Lima passed away in 2010 after suffering a heart attack.  He has six children with six different women.

Twitter Tuesday: "RIP Lima Time"

This past weekend, the baseball world was rocked by the sudden passing of one of the most colorful characters to take the field over the last two decades...former pitcher Jose Lima.

For his career, the energetic Lima was a sub-par 89-102 and carried a 5.26 ERA, but it is apparent that to his former teammates across the Majors (he played 13 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets), he meant much, much more.

Chris Baldwin wrote over at CultureMap.com that Lima was "arguably the most loved mediocre pitcher ever"...and perhaps he's right. I know I can't remember more flowery write ups and tributes for a guy with his stat line.
