And you know what, after winning American Idol, touring with Brad Paisley and grabbing the American Country Awards' New Artist trophy...he might be so far.
But here's the best part...he's back on the bump, baby!
This past weekend, the now-high school senior took to the mound for the Garner Trojans and pitched a scoreless, no-hit seventh inning...and even struck out two!
"It feels good just to come out here and just get back on the field," McCreery told the News & Observer. "I thought my curveball worked well. But today was just about the team. I'm glad to help out the team in any way possible."
And even though he was watched by close to 30 million viewers during last May's finale of "American Idol", the 18-year-old crooner apparently hasn't let the fame get to his head...dude lent his help to cleaning up the field following the game.
"It means a lot to still be a part of this," McCreery said. "It's still playing with my friends, just being back home. I'm blessed to have this opportunity."
Next for McCreery? My guess would be graduation, but if you're looking to scratch that itch...check out his website for tour information.

He's a great role model and an American Idol.
I'm sure he's realizing that the bible belt vote on AI is what got him through and that he really isn't a good singer. Should probably get used to maintaining fields since his career will most likely become something like that.
If his record sales are any indication, this kid has got the goods to stick around for more than a minute.
Just saw him in Tacomoa with Mr. BP and TBP. Unless you are tone def you would know the boy can sing.

Good for him. I'm glad he hasn't let the fame get to his head. Everyone is saying that he only won because of female voters, and I sort of agree with that, but he has skills too. Go Scotty!

ONGRATS SCOTTY. I'm a northern Michigan fan, and sincerely believe you have what it takes to be an outstanding performer and and a great American.

Good for him, BUT how is he eligible? He has multiple endorsement deals and has done commercials. Maybe North Carolina doesn't have rules but most states and the NCAA would not allow it.
As long as he doesn't sign with an agent or an agency for the sport he is playing in, for this case "baseball", he is still considered an amateur. There have been or even are NCAA football players that have played minor league baseball and then returned/enrolled in college and played collegiate level football. So because he is a singer and gets paid for it does not do anything to his athletic eligibility.
I realize that we all have critics, however, just because you might not like his music, don't belittle his God given talents whether it is singing or playing baseball. Way to go Scottie! Don't let negative people steal your joy.
He's still in high school dummy. NCAA has no jurisdiction over that. Geez people, education is so important.
High school or college, a professional career in music does not make you ineligible to play sports. He is no professional athlete. Also, his endorsements and commercials are not based on any athletic fame, so anything there is totally irrelevent.

Endorsments and money mean nothing unless they come from PLAYING baseball. There are many athletes that go into the MLB right out of high school and then come back to play college football if baseball did not pan out. One such example was Heisman trophy winner Chris Weinke at FSU. There are others, just cant think of them off the top of my head

Why can't people just accept that Scotty is just a nice person, that his family raised him to be a good person! I guess unhappy, jealous people will alway belittle someone who has achieved their dream. Go Scotty, love your cd, and yes, I voted for u on Idol!!!
I think that Scotty's decision to play baseball with his team mates and going to his high school graduation is AWESOME!
I dont believe the things people put online and in those awful entertainment papers, However, I do believe what I have seen & heard from Scotty in interviews. I feel he has Good people giving him advice and backing him and I also feel that Scotty has a good head on his shoulders and will make the right decisions for his future.

I feel sorry for you, and sorrier for the people that have to deal with you on a daily basis.
Dick Nuggets you sound very bitter, perhaps the Bible belt and all others who were taught "do unto other's as you would have done unto you" will pray for you. Why do you feel you need to pick on a KID who's trying to make something of himself?
What's wrong with mowing lawns? Do you think less of a person who picks up your trash? I thank God for those who do the jobs I don't care to do. And if I need to have my lawn mowed, I hope there's someone just like Scotty who's willing to mow it.
